Omlet Advent Calendar
There are only 12 days to go until the Christmas countdown begins, and that means we’ll soon be able to open the first door of our advent calendars. Hooray! For the first time ever we will be running an Omlet Online Advent Calendar, full of special offers and dazzling discounts. Every day there will be a door for you to open, with a new offer hiding behind it, and each offer will be valid for one day only. There are some great savings to be made so make sure you check it out.. We’ll give you details of how to access the calendar on 1st of December …not long to wait now!
_The Chicken and the Tortoise_
This week we spotted a post on the forum that made us look twice… A link to a video of a chicken riding a tortoise. Yes, it sounds bizarre, but take a look at the clip yourself and you’ll see it clear as day. The full sized chicken is standing on the shell of a tortoise, being carried around at quite a pace. How, or why it occurred, we do not know, but what we can say for sure is that it is quite hentertaining! [6]Click here to watch the comedy duo in action! Have you seen something similar going on in your own back garden? Then be sure to send us a photo or video!

_This week Alison Turpin tells us why her chicken is a star! __What’s her name?_ Daphne.
_What breed is she? _Warren.
_Where does she live? _Weaverham, Cheshire. Daphne sleeps in a 20-bird wooden henhouse in our large back garden with her 17 other pals (we couldn’t get an Egglu big enough for them all!). They have free range all over the place and lay wherever they want.
_How old is she? _8 months.
_What is her favourite food? _Her favourite food (treat) is sunflower seeds or mealworms. As soon as she sees me carrying the bag out, she will peck at my ankles or even jump up to peck the bag. She is the most impatient of the bunch for these and will not leave me alone when she spots them.
_How does she like to spend her days?_ She loves to spend her days pottering around, finding dust bowls to have a bath in; sitting on the wooden table outside of the window where my work desk sits and watching me work, pecking on the window when she wants some attention – and trying her damnedest to find a way into the conservatory to settle on the settee. We have also found her in our bedroom before today, having a mooch! She left a present for us on our newly carpeted staircase…
_What makes her a star pet? _Daphne is such a nosey, confident, cheeky bird. If any of us approach her, she immediately goes into the squat position for a tickle, but at the same time, she tap-dances – particularly effective when performed on the tiled conservatory floor. None of our other chickens do this and she will dance as long as she is being tickled. When I sit outside in the summer, she will hop up onto the bench next to me and have a chat – it’s just like having a pal to talk to. She’s just so gregarious and fun, you cannot help but love her! And I have NEVER seen a dancing chicken before!
_Meet Daphne, the Tap-Dancing Chicken!_
_We are also on the lookout for ballerinas, break-dancers and ice-skaters should you know any!_

_Gingerbread Men, Women or Chickens_
350g plain flour 100g butter 2 teaspoon ground ginger 1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda 175g soft light brown sugar 4 tablespoons golden syrup 1 large egg 1. Put the flour, bicarb and ginger into a large bowl and rub in the butter until you have fine breadcrumbs. 2. Add the sugar and stir until combined. 3. Lightly whisk the egg with the golden syrup and add to the dry ingredients. 4. Mix until you have a firm dough. Cover in cling film and place in the fridge for 20 minutes. 5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface until it is 5mm thick. 6. Cut out the shapes and place onto a lined baking tray. Cook for 10-15 minutes at 190C/gas mark 5 7. When evenly brown, leave on the tray for a couple of minutes to firm up, then transfer to a cooling rack.
This recipe makes lots of gingerbread chickens/men. You can freeze the dough, well wrapped in cling film. Allow to thaw at room temperature for a couple of hours before using. Try adding 1 teaspoon of cinnamon plus one of ginger and some finely grated orange zest to make the house smell like Christmas! Apparently they keep well (around a week) but this isn’t the case in our house…..!
